Vehicle Ownership is Increasing in Turkey

In parallel with the development of the income and socio-economic situation of the young population in Turkey, it is expected that vehicle ownership will rapidly increase.
According to Turkish Statistical Institution data for 2014 August, the number of vehicles in traffic – excluding tractors and motorcycles – has reached 14 million with an increase of 26% when compared to the number of vehicles in 2010.
While 68% of vehicles in Turkey are automobiles, 32% of them are commercial and special purpose vehicles in Turkey. Accordingly, there are 9.6 million automobiles and 4.4 million commercial vehicles in traffic.
In parallel with the increase of living standards, the number of vehicle per capita increases in Turkey just like in the world. In accordance with 2010 data, the number of automobiles in the world has reached 1 billion 875 million and the ownership has reached 130 per thousand. The number of vehicles per capita is expected to increase to 220 per thousand in 2035.
Vehicle Ownership
Today the number of automobiles in the developing countries is around 235 million. This number is expected to exceed 1 billion in 2035. However, the European Union predicts that the increase of vehicles in the forthcoming term will be very limited and the number of vehicles which is 444 million will reach 460 million only in 2035.
And the automobile ownership in Turkey has reached 121 per thousand with an increase of approximately 20% in 2010-13 term. Turkish Statistical Institution has calculated the number of automobiles per house as 0.38 in Turkey and 1.14 in Europe.
